(non-)Stressful Day

You would think that with only one student out of 70-some, yesterday and today would have been ok, even relaxing. You would be wrong.

Imagine: 95 degree heat with no breeze. No purpose for being there as there is very little to do in the classroom since it has been packed up and brought home. No students to help or teach. Nothing. Sure, there is the internet. Sure, you could and do bring a book or a movie to watch. But, you feel that there is no reason to be there, nothing to do except swelter. This makes you grumpy.

A number of times the office makes an announcement that the book room will shortly be open so that you can return your books, one of the few things left to do. You wait. And wait. Finally, at 12:45, a final announcement: "Ms. E will be ready and open for business in 5 minutes." Dash about to beg, borrow and steal a cart. Deliver books.

Now it's the end of the school day, but you still have grad class. So you finish your paper and go to class after eating dinner. And there is a very uncomfortable discussion at the end of which you feel like you should just give up and move back to Chicago. You come home with groceries and an empty box for later packing, arms full. A roommate on the couch, the others absent.

Upstairs to your sequestered room to clean and try to repair the general dissatisfaction of the day.

Good damn'd luck.
