Gerry came! It was wonderful! We mostly walked around the city (he says that he feels like he now mostly knows the center of the city, the 1st through 8th/9th arrondissements) and stood in long lines outside museums, only to decide that standing in line for an hour or two would not be worth our time and then leaving. So, the only museum that we stepped foot in was the Louvre. But we were in there for a good 7 or 8 hours. Needless to say, we saw a good portion of it, but we did not, by any means, see it all. Other things that we did not do: go to the Eiffel Tower (though we saw it from a distance several times), take a boat ride, go into Notre Dame, go to Sacre Coeur, go to the Basilica of Saint-Denis. Yes, we missed a lot. But I would say that this has been the best five days that I've had in Paris so far.
The first day, Thursday, that he was here, we got off the metro at Place de la Concorde and walked all the way up the Champs-Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe. On Friday, we meet up with my friend Lindsay who was in town on her way to her summer program and we had an expensive Corsican dinner after a couple of hours in the Louvre. Saturday was the day of not going to museums, but rather of walking around the 3rd through 7th. Sunday was again many missed museums, stumbling upon Napolean's Tomb, going to mass at the Hotel de Invalides in Saint-Louis and finding the 19th century covered galleries in the 2nd and 9th.
Gerry's favorite metro stop is Louvre-Rivoli. And, it just might be mine as well. Although Arts et Metiers is quite fine.
And now to the freakin': Eep! I have a lot of work to do. I need to figure out where I am going for my last 6 days in the UK, I need to figure out accomidations for those places. I need to write the final paper for Prof RZ. I need to do some reading for same prof. I need to write my BA proposal. I need to buy baguettes for my French class tomorrow. I need to do the French homework. I need to study for the French final on Wednesday. I need this week to be over. And then I need time to go slowly while in the UK studying and researching with Gerry and for it to go quickly when I travel around on my own.
I am not sure that I dig this whole travelin' by yourself thing. A thing to contemplate, mayhaps.
P.S. At some point before it becomes June, I will be posting a bunch of photos on the Flickr site. And in the blog proper. So keep a look out. :)
